Transformers X-Transbots MX-VIII-T Aegis (Masterpiece Trailbreaker)
The tires are rubbery, hopefully this won’t mean they’ll become sticky over time.
Since this is a Third Party, non-official item, it’s best to get some stickers from Reprolabels/Toyhax.com to make this guy more “toon-accurate”.
To apply, I find the best way to stick the stickers on is to use the tip of a blade, this way you have more control over the application, as compared to using just your fingers. You can also use the blade to help gently peel off a corner of the sticker in case you didn’t center it right and need to re-apply.
lol… It’s really weird you can make you his face through the windshield.
Radar array (as seen in “More Than Meets the Eye” part 2)
Coffee and mugs are glued to the stump, there are log pieces are included in this set too. The human figures are from MP-44 Optimus Prime.
Trailbreaker in the G1 cartoons was popularly known for his force field, which often came in handy in battle. According to his bio, he is good-natured and has a great sense of humor, but this is all to mask the fact that he suffers from low self-esteem, due to his slow speed and is one of the Autobots who consumes the most fuel, resulting in him often requesting to stay behind at headquarters unless absolutely necessary. Functions as the team’s defense strategist.
Aegis comes with both his hands attached by default, to make him show accurate, you have to swap out his left fist with a barrel. The connection is a mushroom peg, so exercise caution when sliding the fist out.
Aegis stands roughly 9 inches and weighs 330 Grams.
Diecast parts include:
-Knees (the red parts)
-Front half of the feet
Man… I really, really hate the way Third Party makers cheap out on the plastic baggies for the accessories and manual. I wish they at least used something a bit more decent.
Also, I wish they used gray plastic for the shoulders, the white really sticks out through the windshield plate.
Optional facial expressions are included.
An optional “G1 toy” head is also included.
lol.. best of all, a screwdriver is included with the set for you to unscrew the head and swap around parts. Thanks X-Transbots!
According to the manual, you can equip parts from Masterpiece Ratchet and Ironhide onto this figure for more play value.
Force field effects parts can be attached to his force field projector.
As seen in the “More than Meets the Eye” part 2 episode, Trailbreaker can use a wrist-mounted force field projector (he used it to smother flames in the oil rig attack).
Comparison with Takara Masterpieces
Overall, I really like this figure. It looks good, has good heft and scales really well with other Masterpieces. Other choices for a MP Trailbreaker would be Badcube’s Speedbump, and Ocular Max’s Terraegis. I went with this version since he looks better proportioned and taller compared to the other releases from the other companies.
From what I’ve heard, it’s a huge improvement over the version 1 XTB released a year back, with tighter joints, a new hand (the old hands had too many joints and kept popping out). I do wish they retained the silver parts for the shoulder missile and the force field projector for contrast, but alas.
