Transformers Origins Bumblebee

One of the most well-liked Autobots around, Bumblebee easily stands out despite his diminutive size. Small, fast and brave, this Autobot Scout dares to go behind enemy lines to gather as much intel on Decepticon activity as he can in order to help the Autobot cause.

The figure is a re-release of the Origins Bumblebee from the Buzzworthy Bumblebee subline.

Due to the nature of the figure’s alt mode, we get a LOT of kibble with this guy in his robot mode.

Bumblebee comes with his blaster.

Strangely, the manual indicates you can post the blaster onto his shoulder holes when not in use for some reason. Go figure?

Same as with the Buzzworthy BB release, we get 5 pieces of Conduction Rods as seen in the opening minutes of the first Transformers Episode.

Bumblebee also comes with his rocket pack from the “Dinobot Island” episodes. Too bad Hasbro cheaped out and gave us a black colored version instead of a proper screen-accurate gray-colored release.

It’s a shame that the colors don’t quite match up for the alt mode, you can see varying shades of yellow on it.

With the exception of the face, the underside is actually pretty clean and neat. Not much kibble going on. Do note that the alt mode does not actually roll though.

The blaster and rocket pack can be mounted on the alt mode.

However, the Conduction Rods don’t have anywhere to go on the alt mode, they can be mounted on Origins Wheeljack if you’ve got him.

Overall, not exactly the best execution for Cybertronian mode Bumblebee. I like that the design team prioritized on getting the alt mode right (except for maybe the varying shades of yellow), as that is the whole point of this release, but man, are there a lot of pieces hanging around the robot mode.

I’m glad I didn’t pay the crazy original SRPs for this figure when it first came out in the Buzzworthy line prior to the pandemic, as the size still hardly justifies the price.

Just a heads up, Takara Tomy just announced their take on this figure, now bundled with the other Origins figures, Jazz and Wheeljack, in the Dramatic Capture series. It’s a safe bet there won’t be any color issues with that release and it will probably have a color-corrected rocket pack to boot, so that would be the figure to get if you still need this guy.
