Transformers 40th Anniversary Selection Lio Convoy

Opening jaw on the beast mode.

Lio Convoy’s twin guns can be mounted on the beast mode to recreate his “Lio Missile” attack.

While in beast mode, Lio Convoy can also do his “Lion Typhoon” attack if you so choose.

Thanks to the new tooling, the lion face and mane look great now. It looked really terrible on the original Hasbro release.

Gaah…someone should’ve been fired for this…

Formerly a low-ranking trainee in the Maximal Space Patrol, Convoy excelled in every task over the years and was eventually selected by Optimus Primal to become his successor as the next Maximal Supreme Commander. Brave, selfless and dedicated, Lio Convoy leads by example, garnering the loyalty of those that follow him.

The figure is a heavy retool of the Voyager Class Leo Prime from the Transformers Legacy: Evolution Line released a year or so back.

His left chest panel can be opened to reveal the Energon Matrix.

His guns can be stowed away on his back panel.

Originally, the Hasbro release had four guns. Sadly, the Takara release trimmed it down to just two.

At least he can still do his “Lio Missile” attack, but he is lacking the two extra “missile launchers” to get the look right.

The guns can also be mounted on his forearms as well.

Flip out “Lion Claws”.

Of course, the most important “upgrade” for this figure, the ability for Lio Convoy to finally be able to functionally do his “Lion Typhoon” attack, which was missing from the Hasbro release.

Overall, a terrific upgrade over the Hasbro Legacy: Evolution release. Show-accurate colors, plus a better beast mode headsculpt and a fully functioning Lion Typhoon attack, it just puts the Hasbro version to shame, really.

With this, plus the upcoming (already released) Age of the Primes Leader Class Big Convoy, we pretty much have all of the main Beast Wars Maximal Commanders in modern sculpting and scale.
