Fans Toys FT-30 Ethereaon (Masterpiece Superion)

Fanstoys items usually come with an outer plastic baggie to protect the box.

Admittedly, due to the size of the box, the baggie comes up a bit short.

This box is huge! Spanning 21 x 13 x 6.25 inches in dimension.

Lol!! I love how they ripped off the intro to Voltron for the bio here. Someone’s got a sense of humor.

We when first open up Ethereaon from the box, this is what we get.

You can transform the parts into a flight stand platform for the Air Defense Team in their alt modes. Do note that each platform is character-specific, so you can’t mix and match.

I love how ingenious the designers were when they went with the thighs becoming these base parts. Just wow!

The same goes for transforming the Electrostatic Discharger Rifle to prop up Maverick. Very cool.

Take off!

Aerialbots! Form Superion!

The combined form of all five Aerialbots, Superion is the Autobot team’s first combiner. Unlike other combiners that followed, which usually came with a forced melding of five different personalities, Superion is unique in that he manages to suppress the various personalities save one, which is focused on defeating Decepticons.

Ethereaon stands roughly 21.5 inches.

Since my scale couldn’t handle the combined weight for this thing, I had to break it down 2660 Grams (torso+legs). 462 Grams (right arm without cannon), 592 Grams (left Arm), 797 (Maverick only). For a total of a whooping 4511 Grams!

Admittedly, plugging in Maverick is somewhat pointless; as he functions only as back panel filler in the combined mode.

Thanks to some clever neck design, Ethereaon can look up and down.

There is ankle articulation, you just have to move some of the leg plates around to give it some space to move.

Likewise, there’s also toe articulation present. While I don’t think most of us will be using it to pose the figure in extreme poses due to its weight, it’s good to know we have these kinds of options thrown in.

The hand articulation design is also something! The number of joints that function is almost like that of a real hand. So awesome.

Ethereaon’s arm cannon/ Electrostatic Discharger Rifle is mounted on his right arm for cartoon accuracy. To get it to lock into place, you’ll have to open up Viper’s side skirt panel and plug in the cannon there.

Ethereaon features swappable heads and antennae, for when you get the itch to turn it into the Studio Ox-styled look for Superion.

Impressively, the head actually features electronics! It has LEDs that light up one of side of Ethereaon’s visor (depending on which side is switched on), but unfortunately, the light isn’t so clear for the Studio Ox head side for some reason. The cartoon accurate head lights up fine, though. The set requires 3x 377A batteries. Batteries are not included.

Swapping the antennae is also easy. But you will have to pluck out the head unit first.

Alternate non-chromed antennae are also included for when you want to keep things less shiny.

For the Studio Ox-styled head, you have three alternate facial expressions to work with.

Do also note that you will need to make changes to Ethereaon’s chest area to match up the look properly, such as the removal of the abdomen panel and the addition of the chest fins.

Unlike the toon version look, which has the rifle mounted onto the figure’s arm, the Studio Ox’s take on the rifle is that it simply plugs into Ethereaon’s hand. You will also have to add on the fins on the rifle as well to complete the look.

Well… it took 5 years but Fans Toys finally completed this bad boy. It simply looks amazing! The size and proportions all look great! The options to switch between toon and Studio Ox style was a very nice bonus, plus the idea to use the torso into a flight stand was also very, very creative. Nicely done, Fans Toys.

My only real concern is that I wish they included some sort of support stand for the combined mode. All that weight has got to be murder on the crotch ratchet joints. We all remember how bad that went with their Omega Supreme figure over time. I really hope this isn’t something we have to worry about down the road.

I might consider getting some 3D printed limbs from Ebay. At least that way I can have both combined and non-combined modes for these guys. We’ll see.
