Transformers Buzzworthy Bumblebee Origin Jazz

Interesting to look at Hasbro’s latest innovation in their packaging. The new “sandwich” design pretty much keeps the figure securely locked in place without using any twist ties or twine. I like it. At least it’s less messy (I always hated picking up the twist ties after I cut them off).

Optimus Prime’s 1st Lieutenant and right-hand man (in the original G1 pilot mini-series anyway), Jazz handles Autobot Special Operations and relays Prime’s commands to the Autobots. Cool, stylish and highly resourceful, Jazz is well liked by almost everyone aboard the Ark.

The figure is meant to homage Jazz’s Cybertronian look from the opening minutes of the “More than Meets the Eye” pilot mini-series.

Thanks to the figure’s shoulder design, you can get some decent butterfly joint action going in the shoulders.

Jazz comes with his iconic Photon Rifle.

Lastly, Jazz comes with a grappling hook.

It’s too bad the grappling hook doesn’t have any actual cable to it. It also CANNOT be transferred or mounted on the Earthrise Jazz’s wrist as well.

The grappling hook can connect into the Photon Rifle.

The weapon can also be mounted on Jazz’s back for storage.

It should be noted that the alt mode does NOT have any wheels so it cannot roll on an surfaces.

The Photon Rifle can be mounted on the vehicle mode.

While the grappling hook can be pegged into a spot underneath the vehicle mode.

With Earthrise Optimus Prime (I really need to dig out WFC: Siege Optimus for a proper comparison at some point down the road).

Overall, it’s pretty good. I like it. Hasbro did a good job on this one. The transformation is fun and the figure looks really great in both modes. I got this to bolster the Siege group since it doesn’t feel right that we never got a proper Cybertronian Jazz in the series and I think this fits in quite nicely.

I’m still on the fence with Origins Bumblebee though, as it looks terrible with all the kibble in robot mode.

I wonder if we’ll see more Origins figures down the line? Wheeljack is pretty much a given, but who else could they do for this offshoot line?

The figure was released as a Target Exclusive in the US.
