Jazz

Optimus Prime’s first lieutenant and the Autobot’s second-in-command, Jazz is one of the coolest Autobots around. Able to improvise in almost any situation, Jazz is highly resourceful and always gets the mission done.

Jazz is a reuse of the Studio Series 86 version with toon-accurate deco.

Toon-accurate blue color for his chest area.

This version features painted hubcaps with stripping on the rear wheel-wells for better cartoon accuracy.

The figure also sports painted windshields on solid plastic, as opposed to the Studio Series version’s clear parts, which were said to have been prone to breakage (I didn’t encounter this though).

Jazz comes with his iconic Photon Rifle.

The Photon Rifle can be pegged onto his back for storage.

Jazz’s Photon Rifle can be mounted on the vehicle mode.

Sunstreaker

Vain and arrogant, with a touch of sociopathic tendencies, Sunstreaker is also often disdainful of fellow Autobots who can’t keep up with his skills. Sunstreaker also loves to boast about himself, a LOT! It goes without saying that Sunstreaker does not get along much with his fellow Autobots. Despite this, Optimus Prime mostly keeps him around for his speed and ruthless effectiveness on the battlefield.

Sunstreaker is a reuse of the Earthrise version with a new toon-accurate shade of yellow.

I gotta admit, the darker shade of yellow here looks way better than the Earthrise version.

This time around, Hasbro included an actual rifle for Sunstreaker to use. The rifle is the same one we got from Legacy Elita-1.

You can still opt to use the old Rocket Boosters accessory as a separate weapon for Sunstreaker, if you prefer.

Like the others in this set, this version now features painted windshields on solid plastic, as opposed to the Earthrise version’s clear (more fragile) plastic parts.

Unfortunately, the new rifle has nowhere to decently mount when it comes to the vehicle mode.

You can opt to post the gun onto the back of the vehicle, I guess? Not really the best option though.

Trailbreaker

Good-humored and well-liked by most Autobots, Trailbreaker actually suffers from low self-esteem, stemming from his being one of the heavier Energon-consuming Autobots on the team. Trailbreaker usually requests to stay behind at Autobot Headquarters just to help contribute to the cause. He functions as the team’s Defensive Strategist.

Trailbreaker is a reuse of the Earthrise version now with a toon-accurate shade of gray for his body instead of black.

The figure still comes with his Force Field Projector and shoulder cannon.

Trailbreaker’s only accessory is his arm cannon.

His “backpack” can be removed to function as a shield, just like with the Earthrise figure.

Personally, I find this figure to be the weakest among the set, mainly due to no new accessories being included for this guy. The deco change doesn’t really do much either. I wish they included some sort of prop to showcase his forcefield or something, just to add something really new to this guy.

This version now features painted windshields on solid plastic, as opposed to the Earthrise version’s clear parts.

Same as before, Trailbreaker’s arm cannon can be mounted on the roof of the vehicle mode.

Wheeljack

The Autobot’s chief engineer and crackpot inventor, Wheeljack’s been known to create some impressive tech and weaponry (if he isn’t accidentally blowing himself up in the process). Wheeljack is also actually a skilled stunt driver who loves to show off his mad driving skills when not in the engineering lab.

Wheeljack is a reuse of the Earthrise version with toon-accurate deco.

As something that gets left behind due to the transformation design, it’s still weird to see the back of his hands looking like this…

Wheeljack still comes with his shoulder-mounted Magnetic Inducer.

The Magnetic Inducer can be removed and used as a hand-held weapon.

Aside from the magnetic inducer shoulder cannon, Wheeljack also now comes with a proper blaster weapon.

Like everyone else in this set, this version now features painted windshields on solid plastic as opposed to the Earthrise version’s clear parts.

The Magnetic Inducer can be mounted on top of the vehicle mode.

Unfortunately, like Sunstreaker, the new weapon has nowhere to go on the vehicle mode, at least not in a way that looks cool.

This is as good as it gets for improvisation.

Hound

Functioning as an Autobot Scout, Hound loves his job. Amazed with Earth’s lush landscapes and mountains, Hound craves exploring the beautiful natural wonders of his new home. Friendly and affable, he gets along with almost everyone on the team.

The only “new” figure and actual “must have” of the set. Hound is a heavy retool of the Siege figure, with reused parts (shoulders, arms, thighs and feet).

The figure was originally meant to be released under the Buzzworthy Bumblebee line, but was eventually cancelled by Target due to the previous year’s poor toyline sales.

Reused shoulders, arms, thighs (and feet) from the Siege version.

Hound comes with a shoulder-mounted Rocket Launcher. Interestingly, we never really see him fire this rocket, it’s been used as a sensor instead for detecting Decepticons.

Hound comes with his Hologram Gun, which projects three-dimensional holograms that can fool the optics of most Transformers and humans. Though the illusion is broken once they touch the hologram as they’re not “solid” constructs.

Like the rest of the boxset, Hound comes with painted windows on solid plastic. I guess at least he matches with Earthrise Cliffjumper now.

Much like his Siege counterpart, Hound’s weapons can be mounted onto the vehicle mode.

ROLL OUT!

TRANSFORM!!

Autobots stand united!

Overall, a pretty good set. It’s a great “second chance” for folks to get figures that they might have missed out on previously. While I would’ve preferred it if Hasbro released Hound solo (he’s really the only reason to get this set if you have the other figures), I don’t really mind “double dipping” that much since Hasbro did improve the deco and accessories for most of the figures in the set. It would’ve really sucked if they just straight up reissued the others for this set without any changes.
